Kastrated- 2007

FIRST OF ALL, HOW ABOUT A FEW LINES ABOUT YOURSELVES, BY WAY OF INTRODUCTION?
Chris: Well, this line-up of Kastrated has been together since the beginning of 2005 with the addition of Smith (also of Reth/EDT/The Afternoon Gentlemen) on drums. Previously we had a far more old-school sound but with Smith we went about creating a more technical and brutal sound for ourselves, our range of influences is pretty wide as all of us are into different stuff apart from our mutual love for brutal death. We’re currently beginning to write our follow-up to our contribution to the North-West Slam-Fest 3 way split and expand and refine our live set.

THE RECENT SPLIT WITH CREPITATION AND INGESTED (NORTH-WEST SLAM FEST) HAS BEEN IMPRESSING MANY, HOW DID IT COME ABOUT?
Chris: We’d been mates with the other bands for some time, Paul the Gek from Crep having booked us for Manchester shows so we got to know him and the other lads. We’d also played with Ingested when they were still Age of Suffering and generally became mates at the various brutal gigs in Manchester. I believe it was Paul’s idea to get all 3 bands together to represent the brutality we have up North, without Paul’s endless dedication to the project it wouldn’t have got off the ground. Many thanks to Grindethic Records as well for distributing the CD through their label!
The main idea behind the split was to do the CD with bands that are also good friends of ours and also to show what audio brutality the UK is capable of producing.

THE UK SEEMS TO FINALLY BE BRINGING ABOUT A DECENT DEATH METAL SCENE, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE A PART OF THAT, BEING A YOUNG AND UPCOMING BRUTAL BAND? DOES IT MAKE YOU PROUD TO SEE YOUR HOME 'SCENE' FINALLY MAKING A MARK?
Chris: It feels fantastic to be part of the UKDM scene at this moment as it’s never been stronger and the amount of absolutely quality brutal bands that are forming right now is ridiculous. Bands like Sarpanitum, Durance of Hate, Embryonic Depravity and Infected Disarray will be putting the UK back on the musical map for certain. It’s a good feeling to be part of the growth of the brutal death scene in the UK, unlike all the death-core rubbish that’s been breeding in the last couple of years this isn’t a trend; it’ll go from strength to strength in the next few years to come and I can’t wait to hear what musically savagery will be created in that time.

LIVE PERFORMANCE IS OBVIOUSLY AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE BAND; DO YOU ENJOY IT OR SEE IT AS A NOTHING BUT A NECESSITY? IT MUST FEEL GOOD TO SEE PEOPLE GOING SICK TO YOUR MUSIC.
Chris: I love playing live, particularly playing to new crowds in different places, although some of our favorite gigs have been played in Manchester. The underground scene there is sick and we’ve met a lot of ace people at gigs. Watching people really enjoy the music is easily the best part of playing live other than meeting new people and getting pissed with them! We’re constantly striving to make our live shows better, we’ve done away with our older material recently in order to make the set about quality rather than the quantity of songs. Currently we’re on live hiatus in order to build up the set length by writing new songs as well as getting tighter live, we should have our most intense and crazy material to date when we begin gigging again, I can’t wait to play it!

BEEF CONSPIRACY

After hearing about your music from a friend i looked you up on myspace...the first thing i thought was fuck me thats intense, do you have any particular influences behind your music?

Our influences are pretty varied and to be honest we don't have a great deal in common with most of them but I'd say some of the bands that have most directly affected our music from the beginning are early works by Brutal Truth, Cephalic Carnage and Cryptopsy and we developed a love for the blast beat from grind bands like Bloody Gore, Pigsty and Flesh Parade. Various members listen to brutal death metal, drum and bass, ambient and thrash so I guess it all creeps in there somewhere.

Are there any upcoming tours with Beef Conspiracy?

Nowadays we're all involved in other projects more so Beef Conspiracy gigs are pretty sporadic. The next one isn't until July 13th supporting Dead Infected in London. We may confirm so more before then in the meantime though.

Beef Conspiracy doesnt seem like your average death metal/gore band name, how did it come about?

The band was actually named before I joined but I think the main reason for it was just as a refusal to take ourselves too seriously compared to a lot of bands in the grind scene. A lot of people think we're making some kind of vegetarian statement but its in fact a pro meat-eating title. Its mainly just meant to be pretty nonsensical like most of the ideas we have.
